Company description

Dr. William H. Yong is a board-certified UCI Health pathologist who specializes in neuropathology. His clinical interests include brain and pituitary tumors as well as the pathology of neuromuscular disorders. Yong earned his medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, receiving the American Association of Neuropathologists' Lucien J. Rubinstein Award in neuro-oncology for his work in the lab of Dr. David Louis, who pioneered the use of molecular diagnostics to classify malignant gliomas and predict their response to therapies. He then completed fellowship training in neuropathology at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. He also holds a master's degree in cell and molecular biology from San Francisco State University, where he studied reverse transcription of HIV-1 (AIDS). Prior to joining UCI Health and the UCI School of Medicine, Yong served as chief of neuropathology at UCLA Health, director of Brain Tumor Translation Resource at UCLA's Brain Research Institute and director of UCLA's neuropathology fellowship program. Before that, he was the director of pathology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Yong's research interests include the neuropathology of brain tumors, Down syndrome and COVID-19, as well as biobanking and pathology informatics. He is the author or co-author of more than 275 peer-reviewed research publications.
