Dr. Sumeet Vadera is a fellowship-trained UCI Health neurosurgeon who specializes in epilepsy surgery, with expertise in minimally invasive surgery for adult and pediatric patients with epilepsy. Vadera's clinical expertise is in neuromonitoring, specifically subdural grids and stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), and the treatment of patients with medically intractable epilepsy. He performs minimally invasive laser surgery to treat deep epileptic lesions in the brain and is skilled at implanting the Neuropace RNS® (responsive neurostimulation) device to help control seizures. He is the first neurosurgeon on the West Coast to use a neurosurgical robotic device for precise mapping and positioning when performing SEEG and other minimally invasive cranial procedures. He also treats patients with cervical degenerative disease and syringomyelia, spine deformity and spine tumors, brain tumors, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformation, spine and cranial trauma, and concussion. Vadera earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Penn., and completed a neurosurgery residency and a fellowship in epilepsy surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. His research focus is on epilepsy surgery and outcomes as well as spine surgery. He is the lead author of several publications related to epilepsy surgery and outcomes in major neurosurgery journals. He also is an ad hoc reviewer for several journals. He is currently a member of the Congress of Neurosurgeons (CNS), the American Association of Neurosurgeons (AANS) and the Society for Brain Mapping Techniques (SBMT). Vadera, who also is fluent in Hindi.
