Roman M. Kassa, M.D., Ph.D. is a neurologist with Norton Neuroscience Institute Hussung Family Multiple Sclerosis Center. Dr. Kassa earned her medical degree from Addis Ababa University Faculty of Medicine in Ethiopia. She completed her residency in adult neurology at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, and a fellowship in multiple sclerosis at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Kassa also holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience research from the University of Verona in Italy. Dr. Kassa specializes in neuroimmunology, and her deep interest in this field led to her graduate work focusing on the role of neuroinflammation on motor neuron death that occurs with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). She worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Verona and Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. Her areas of interest include multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder, myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disease, transverse myelitis, neurosarcoidosis and autoimmune encephalitis. She has a deep passion for clinical neurology and patient care. When she is not caring for her patients, Dr. Kassa enjoys traveling, reading and listening to music.
