Monica Polcz, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in minimally invasive surgery at Baptist Health. She is fluent in English, Hungarian and conversational Spanish. Using advanced laparoscopic, robotic and general surgical methods, Dr. Polcz treats conditions affecting the abdomen and the foregut (esophagus and stomach). She specializes in abdominal wall reconstruction for simple, complex and recurrent hernias.Prior to joining Baptist Health, Dr. Polcz completed her advanced GI and minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Atrium Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.Dr. Polcz earned her medical degree from Florida International University, graduating in the top five percent of her class. She went on to achieve her master’s degree in biomedical engineering while finishing her general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dedicated to advancing surgical care, Dr. Polcz conducts research on patient outcomes and medical device development. She has published multiple chapters in major surgical textbooks and participated in national committees that develop surgical guidelines. She currently serves as an expert consultant for the well-known medical podcast “Behind the Knife.” She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, The American Hernia Society and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. Through open communication and shared decision-making, Dr. Polcz ensures that her patients feel informed and involved during every phase of their treatment and recovery.
