Michael Messmer, DO, is a board-certified primary care sports medicine physician specializing in nonoperative sports medicine who sees patients seven years and older. He provides nonsurgical treatment of sports-related injuries, including performing musculoskeletal diagnostic ultrasounds, ultrasound-guided injections, regenerative injections and treatments. Conditions he treats include fractures, tendon and ligament injuries, arthritis and muscle and joint pain. Dr. Messmer focuses on diagnosing and managing injuries and illnesses that can affect the performance of individuals and athletes. His expertise lies in nonoperative musculoskeletal treatments, and he is committed to helping patients find solutions, such as physical therapy and lifestyle modifications. Dr. Messmer loves cooking, hiking, weightlifting and all sports. He enjoys spending time with his family and being active in the community. For several years, he worked with the U. S. Olympic weightlifting team, teaching proper techniques. Dr. Messmer is a team physician for Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. Dr. Messmer earned his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He completed his internship and residency at St. James Health Center in Chicago, Illinois and his primary care sports medicine fellowship at Metro Health Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
