Dr. Michael P. O'Leary is a board-certified UCI Health surgeon who is fellowship trained in surgical oncology. He earned his medical degree at UCI School of Medicine in Irvine, followed by a residency in general surgery at Los Angeles County Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Next, he completed a fellowship in complex surgical oncology at City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, Calif. O’Leary’s focus is on peritoneal metastases, complex cytoreduction and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). He also has extensive surgical experience in hepatopancreatobiliary, gastric, colorectal, small intestine, melanoma, breast, endocrine and sarcoma malignancy. He has co-authored numerous manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include the use of novel therapeutics to target and treat solid tumors. He is committed to medical student, resident and fellow education and has won numerous teaching awards. He is a Gold Humanism Honor Society Member and has been recognized for his display of humanism in medicine. O’Leary has a keen interest in global health and spent a year abroad in Kenya, where he hopes to continue outreach to the rural populations of East Africa to improve access to affordable and standardized cancer care. He is also a father of three children and enjoys running, fishing, golfing and embracing the gift of each new day.
