Luke A. Beggs, M.D., Ph.D., is an orthopedic sports medicine physician with Norton Orthopedic Institute. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Lexington. He completed a residency in family medicine at Mountain Area Health Education Center, Asheville, North Carolina, and a fellowship in sports medicine at Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Beggs cares for patients with injuries, arthritis, and a variety of orthopedic and sports medicine conditions, treating issues related to the hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders and arms. His focus is optimizing the use of nonsurgical treatments, and helping patients to determine if they need to see an orthopedic surgeon. He performs various injection therapies, including steroids, viscosupplementation and platelet-rich plasma. When needed, he can perform more specialized injections using ultrasound guidance. As a sports medicine doctor, Dr. Beggs’ care philosophy is to think of every patient as an athlete competing in the sport of life, and help them stay as active as they can for as long as they can. He is medical co-director for jockey care at Churchill Downs, and provides care at various schools and events where Norton Healthcare provides medical coverage. Dr. Beggs was born and raised in Paducah, Kentucky. Outside the office, he has a personal interest in strength sports such Strongman competitions, bodybuilding, powerlifting and CrossFit competitions, and occasionally competes in them.
