Dr. Sturgeon is a native of Louisville, Ky. He attended Flaget High School and graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Dr. Sturgeon completed his internship at the former St. Joseph's Hospital in Louisville and his pediatric residency at Louisville Children's Hospital (now known as Norton Children's Hospital). After serving two years as an Army pediatrician on active duty at Fort Knox, Ky., during the Vietnam War era, he finished as a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He then entered private practice in pediatrics in Louisville. He has six children (five boys and one girl), and nine grandchildren. Dr. Sturgeon is a member of the Greater Louisville Medical Society, the Kentucky Pediatric Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Kentucky Medical Association. He has served as past president of Norton Children's Hospital and past president of the Kentucky Pediatric Society. He is board certified in pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. His hobbies include reading historical novels and fiction, and exercising – mainly walking or bicycling. Dr. Sturgeon has been voted by his peers as one of Louisville Magazine’s Top Docs for 2019.
