Dr. Sean Mitchell is an accomplished orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, he graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame. He received a Bachelor of Science and a degree in Spanish Language & Literature. He was inducted into the Sigma Delta Pi National Honors Society. As a senior rugby captain, he was also named a Collegiate Rugby Academic All-American. He returned to Chicago to earn a Medical Doctorate from the University of Illinois and to complete a Translational Research Fellowship in Orthobiologics at Northwestern University Feinberg College of Medicine. Dr. Mitchell completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He completed a Hand/Upper Extremity Surgical Fellowship at The Jewett Orthopedic Institute/ Orlando Health Medical Center. As a fellow he logged the most trauma cases in the country with a wide exposure to complex upper extremity fractures, tendon lacerations, amputations, microsurgical neurovascular repairs and advanced soft tissue reconstruction. He has received licenses to practice in Arizona, Florida, and New York and passed all American Board of Orthopedic Surgery eligibility examinations. A committed researcher and educator, he has over 30 peer-reviewed publications, has served on equipment design advisory boards, and been an invited author for resident education text books. Dr. Mitchell has held hospital leadership positions and actively participates in professional societies such as the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
